Portland, OR - Although Summer is on its way out, it doesn't mean that we can still lug around those Summer beers that reminded us of warmer temperatures, drier air, and hoppy beers.

Back in May during Seattle Beer Week, Hopworks' owner and head brewer Christian Ettinger was kind enough to bring with him a keg of this beer dubbed, Rise Up Red. Brewed as a "Northwest" Red Ale this beer won honors at last year's Great American Beer Festival, winning Gold for American Red Ale. For us, had to get our hands on this beer as soon as it became available in bottles.

It was not until a couple of weeks ago that while looking at the shelves at Redmond’s nearby Malt & Vine, that we spotted this beer with the unique HUB label.

Hopworks Rise Up Red pours amber & clear with an initial strong foamy head that recedes slowly, leaving behind an almost torn blanket of lace inside the glass.

As you swirl the glass under your nose, the noticeable aroma of grapefruit citrus combine with some minor earthiness before an aroma of biscuit breadiness enters your senses.

The first sip of this beer welcomes biscuit breadines, some barley, before finishing fruity and sweet. Overall this beer leaves a medium weight on the tongue and at 5.80% is a nice starter beer when transition between Summer and Fall. This beer will only be available till September 30th so you might want to hurry up and pick one up.

This full bodied NW Red Ale is mahogany smooth and hopped to the rafters with locally grown Cascade and Centennial hops. Raise your pints in the air, Rise Up, gather around, Organic Beer from the ground. Gold Medal – American Red Ale 2009 Great American Beer Festival. Alc. 5.8% by Volume,  13.5 degrees Plato, 60 IBU

Our Thoughts.
You Should Try. Thoughts cannot help but gravitate towards this beer as a nice alternative to an IPA in the fridge. For something interesting try this with some brats or a ham sandwich.
