Yakima, WA – Word has come from Yakima, that it’s sole brewery (sadly no, no Grants Brewing) has just opened a taproom. With limited seating this might feel a bit confined, when compared to traditional taproom or alehouse, but we are still intrigued by this decision.

Before this decision the brewery was only able to accommodate guests, by seating them at tables located near the brewery.

Here is what Jeff Winn President and Brewmaster had to say regarding the Taproom.

The “Taproom at the Brewery” will serve YCBC’s highly-regarded beer alongside basic pub fare.  The seating is limited- only 21 seats- and the hours compliment the brewery.

“We’re excited” … “Fans have been asking for something like this for a long time, and it’s nice to have a brewpub back in Yakima.”

Starting this week you can expect to enjoy your favorite Yakima Craft beer in 20 oz Imperial Pint glasses or 10oz ‘half-pints. Growler refills are still listed as available by request, and the food menu is looking like a typical pub; with pizza, nachos, and other various appetizer portioned meals.

There are also some other pluses outside the chance to enjoy a pint straight from the brewery, while drown a slice of pizza. Here is what head brewer Chris Swedin had to say.

“It’s nice to have a place for visitors to hang out” … “And the Taproom also often gets the first of a seasonal release of our beer, so that’s good for customers as well.”

Initially the Taproom will be open from 4 PM to 8 PM, Monday thru Friday, open Saturday 1PM to 10PM, and closed Sunday.

We started building Yakima Craft Brewing Co. in December of 2007. We sold our first beer in June of 2008.

Even though we are a young brewery, there is a lot of history here.

As beer fans, you probably know that the Yakima Valley is responsible for producing around75% of the hop crop grown in the U.S.A.

As the major producer of hop, you would think that this area is closely tied to the craft beer industry. And you'd be right. Most of the major US hop growers and processors are here, as well as hop industry organizations.

More than this, many would argue that the craft beer industry wouldn't be as it is today without one particular figure; Bert Grant. Bert isn't the only figure in craft beer, but many would argue that he was the one with most initial impact, founding Bert Grant's Real Ales in 1982 in the Opera House here in Yakima.
