Pairing Preview: WA: 2/10 Pike Chocofest. Tickets still available

image courtesy of Flickr's Creative Commons It’s less than one week before Valentine’s Day! To wife or girlfriend it’s a day in which flowers are mandatory and cards are for the creative. For men it’s another day within 365 in which adjectives like stress, anxiety, forgot, anger, or depression; enter the consciousness.

For the craft beer community at large it’s another rare opportunity to remind people that beer and chocolate can go together. Which is why we, like most of the male population, are late to remember that Sunday (not to be confused with Thursday) herald’s the return of Pike Brewing’s Chocofest.

But first a history lesson from Pike, about Chocofest

Pike Chocofest began in 2009 as a romantic experience, designed to expose the sensual relationship between chocolate and beer, as Seattle is a love-nest for both. Wine, spirits, cider and mead also cohabit-ate deliciously with chocolate, though perhaps they are not as orgasmic a combination as with beer--vintners, distillers, and mead makers might disagree. For years wineries have promoted red wine and chocolate; drinking eau de vie with chocolate truffles at the end of the meal is expected in Switzerland and France.

So basically this means that you, the owner of a $45 ticket, can walk around enjoying (or swallowing whole) bits of chocolate paired with beer. New this year the brewery has asked a few local restaurants to provide something savory, as a palate cleanser from that cocoa, carpet bombing you just experienced.

Guests can pleasurably decide for themselves at Pike Chocofest 2013, where a wide variety of potables will be paired with chocolate and savory comestibles; a tasting, as the saying goes, from "soup to nuts" and "sweet to savory." It's a virtual orgy for food and drink lovers! Owners and representatives from more than sixty vendors: local wineries, distilleries, cider makers, brewers, and importers, along with restaurants, brewers, bakers, cheese makers, a coffee roaster, too; all sampling their wares and sharing their stories.

Also, with your purchase for admission you will be supporting Puget Soundkeeper Alliance.

About Pike Brewing Company

The Pike Brewing Company is a family owned brewery located 1/2 block South of the entrance to the historic Pike Place Public Market. It is owned by Charles and Rose Ann Finkel who founded the brewery in 1989.

About Puget Soundkeeper Alliance

Founded in 1984 as the Puget Sound Alliance (PSA), PSA was the first grassroots citizens’ organization to focus exclusively on protecting the marine environment of Puget Sound. Initially, PSA fought successfully for secondary wastewater treatment at West Point in Seattle and a Puget Sound Management Plan. In 1990, following the successful model of the Hudson Riverkeeper in New York, PSA launched the 6th licensed Waterkeeper program in the nation when it hired its first Puget Soundkeeper and began patrolling the waters of the Sound by boat.

Renamed Puget Soundkeeper Alliance (Soundkeeper) in 1992, the organization was a founding member of the international Waterkeeper Alliance, a national movement founded by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Today, Waterkeeper Alliance and its member organizations are the fastest growing environmental movement in the world with over 200 licensed Waterkeepers on six continents.
