Boulder, CO –This Sunday Avery Brewing Company will release another massive barrel-aged beer, and they've upped the ante again by heavily dosing this brew with locally roasted organic coffee.

Tweak is a 17.81% ABV coffee stout aged 4 months in fresh Bourbon barrels. Says founder and CEO Adam Avery, “Tweak is a super versatile beer—you could have it at brunch or it could be the last beer of the night. ‘Cause I don’t care what you've been drinking, you’ll be able to taste Tweak after it.”

Avery went on to say he’ll be drinking this beer no matter what time it is. “You could start the day with a coffee mug of Tweak and your boss would never know.”

Cold brewed coffee is typically made by soaking the beans in cold water, but Avery’s brewers went a step further and soaked the beans in the beer itself. “We didn’t want to dilute the flavors,” says Avery Chief Barrel Herder Andy Parker. “You can definitely taste the coffee and will still taste the malt and the vanilla, coconut, and charred oak notes from the barrels.”

Avery added 1.6 pounds of Ozo Coffee Co.’s Organic Isabelle Espresso to every barrel of beer. “Ozo’s roastery is just a few blocks from our brewery and they make incredible coffee,” says Parker, “so we went to them and asked for a ton of beans. They gave us this ridiculously smooth roast that’s caramelly and chocolatey.”

The 17.81% alcohol by volume adds another layer to this highly complex beer. Says Parker, “Alcohol is a flavor component of every beer you've ever had and we’re purposely using that component to make new styles of beer.”
