(WA) SOLD OUT: Russian River Dinner at Art of the Table 3/31

image courtesy of JWalsh's Flickr page Seattle, WA – To some this notice might seem salt in the wound, but to others this will hopefully drive home that a craft beer dinner at Art of the Table is not to be missed. A few weeks ago, those of us that are active newsletter subscribers received notice that after a short hiatus Art of the Table is doing another craft beer and food pairing. Like most people we immediately contacted  the powers that be, and indicated our interest to be at that dinner. As it turns out we were more fortunate than some to get on that very list.

1st Course Paired with Russian River Damnation

  • Potato, Leek & Pancetta Fritter with Herb Aioli

About Russian River Damnation

In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster's interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

2nd Course Paired with Russian River Temptation

  • Tunisian Carrot Salad, Roasted Beets, Pine Nuts, Harissa Vinaigrette

About Russian River Temptation

"Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. However, Temptation is indeed beer. Temptation is a Blonde Ale aged in French oak chardonnay barrels with Brettanomyces. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout its aging. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

7.25%ABV / 1.062 O.G / 27 BUs

3rd Course Paired with Pliny the Elder

  • Marinated Grilled Organic Chicken Skewer, House Pickle, Chili Oil, Lemongrass Dashi

About Russian River Pliny the Elder

Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "Lupus salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, Humulus lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncle's legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
