Festival Preview: Portland Beer Week: Bottles celebrates the Oregon coasts’ breweries 8/25

image sourced from Bottles' websitePortland, OR – When it comes to celebrating the brewpub Portland has everyone beat, hands down. However where do you go when you want something in ‘an easy carrying case’? The answer is pretty simple, the bottle shop. Historically that means visiting places like John’s Marketplace, Belmont Station, your local IG (independent grocer) or one of the growing numbers of new shops, like Bottles.

Anyone in PDX right now is raising their hand wishing we would strike that last statement, but it’s true. Despite the amount of time that Bottles has been in the Rose City, it’s still a relative unknown. And personally some of us would like to keep this place that way, for our sake.

However, we have noted that they are stepping up to prove that they know a thing or two about hosting a beer bash. Introducing "Going Coastal.". Featuring beers from ocean bound breweries, Pelican, Astoria, Fort George, and Rusty Truck; this might be your only chance to see some of these beers out of their bottle in Portland.

Coming for the first time to Portland for its metro debut is Rusty Truck Brewing. The brewery is the newest addition to the Roadhouse 101, a well-known family dining and music venue in Lincoln City. Pelican Pub & Brewery, Astoria Brewing Co. and Fort George Brewery + Public House will also be making trips from the coast to bring their beers. Brewers and brewery reps will also be joining in the fun with some giveaways and to answer questions about their beers.

Join Bottles in this delightfully casual evening of "Going Coastal."

Astoria Brewing Co. (https://www.facebook.com/wetdogcafe?sk=wall)

  • ESB 5.5% ABV
Assertively hopped yet still nicely balanced, Astoria ESB is a scintillating sipper with a toasty malt backbone and citrusy and fruity notes.
  • 2nd Beer TBA

Fort George Brewery + Public House (http://www.fortgeorgebrewery.com/)

  • Roscoe’s IPA 6.4% ABV
This is an experimental American-style IPA. It's named after Peter Roscoe, Astoria city councilor, and advocate of locally-grown wild rice. Peter is working with Clatsop County farmers to utilize untapped farmland for rice, as he believes the water-loving rice would thrive in our rainy climate. The beer consists of 5% Oregon Jewell Wild Rice, which provides a dry, roasted nut flavor. We used Cascade and Citra Hops to add a fruity, orange component. A perfect, crisp springtime IPA.
  • Cavatica Stout 8.8% ABV
An immense, bold, black as night, American stout beauty; Cavatica Stout defies easy style categorization. It is not a dry Irish Stout, nor is it a sweet Foreign Export. Made in the tradition of Terminator, because that is where the brewer learned to brew, one sip and you will surely take notice to what you’re drinking. The name honors this brewer’s affinity with Arachnia. Be forewarned, this beer will stain your clothes.

Pelican Pub & Brewery (http://www.yourlittlebeachtown.com/pelican)

  • Ankle-Buster Ale 5.4% ABV
Surfers know all too well that ankle-buster waves are barely big enough to surf on, but our special seasonal Ankle-Buster Ale is bound to create a big wave. With an herbal hop character, fruity/spicy Belgian yeast aromas, toasty and caramel-like malt flavor, and a clean dry finish, Ankle-Buster carves its own path to refreshing, flavorful beer. This Belgian Pale Ale is best enjoyed with both feet planted on sand.
  • India Pelican Ale 7.5% ABV
Enjoy the huge Cascade and Centennial hop aroma, the subtle malty sweetness, and the floral, citrusy flavor of this robust, gold colored ale. This brew began life as a seasonal beer during our first year and was so popular while we had it, and so frequently requested when it was gone, that we turned it into our fifth regular beer style our second year.

Rusty Truck Brewing (http://www.rustytruckbrewing.com)

  • Fender Bender Amber Ale 6.2% ABV
Notes of chocolate barley and assertive hop character harmonize together to highlight our Fender Bender Amber Ale, and a hard-rockin' 6.2% ABV can enliven any taste buds seeking good brews, good tunes, and good times.
  • Slant 6 Pale Ale 5.5% ABV
Look into a crisp, Cascade-hopped classic American style Northwest Pale Ale in the Rusty Truck Slant 6 Pale Ale, a great sipper all by itself or paired with your favorite meal. It is sure to tantalize your taste buds.

About PDX Beer Week

Portland Beer Week, a city-wide celebration of the vibrant local craft beer community in Portland, Ore., will take place Aug. 19-28.  The week-long event, in its first year, highlights the breweries, businesses,  people and, most importantly, the beer that have earned Portland its well-deserved reputation as Beervana. It's 10 days long because we just couldn't fit all the fun into a regular seven-day week. Details at http://www.pdxbeerweek.com
