Beer Release: NW: Coming Soon (in 2014) … Ninkasi’s ReNEWale Alt Pale Ale

But what about the day after? Some would call it New Year's Day. While other's call it the day after, spent acting like a hooligan, or drinking out of someone's size 8 spectator heels.  Usually after a night like that you would consume a few ... thousand ... aspirin, throw on a pair of flannel jammies, and wake up on January 2nd.
Or. Or. You can nurse your way through the start of 2014 with a glass of Ninkasi ReNEWale.
Described as an Alt Pale Ale by the brewery this year's ReNEWale is "... a lighter, cold-weather offering for those looking to break through winter doldrums".
“The idea for this beer started as a way to satisfy those looking to move away from winter seasonals after the New Year,” explains Jamie Floyd, founding brewer and co-owner of Ninkasi. “We decided that we should celebrate the New Year with a new beer each year.”
ReNEWale 2014 is no exception, offering a beer with moderate alcohol level and a nuanced flavor. “So far, we have brewed an Irish Red, Robust Porter and an ESB under the name ReNEWale for past years,” says Floyd. “ReNEWale gives us a chance to be creative and offer a beer that normally would be released to a series with a much more limited availability.”

New year, new beer indeed! A pale ale brewed with an alt yeast strain, this year’s ReNEWale is subtly malty yet deliciously crisp and smooth. Grab some friends and cheers to the year ahead!
Inspired by the traditional Northern German Altbier, our ReNEWale puts a Northwest spin on this style, offering a beer with a pale ale base brewed with an alt yeast strain. Similar to the German Altbier, this beer is copper in color with a malty aroma and little hop presence. It is crisp and smooth with a fairly bitter yet balanced malt flavor.

The inspiration for this year’s brew came from Ninkasi’s production coordinator, Paul Cook. “We wanted to have fun with this beer and experiment with an existing Ninkasi recipe,” says Cook. “We took a pale ale recipe and morphed it to use our house alt yeast strain – the same yeast we use in our winter Seasonal Series Release, Sleigh’r, but presented in a much lighter offering.”
Starting January 2014 you should start seeing bottles and draft of ReNEWale throughout the Northwest, wherever you find Ninkasi's other beers.

Cheers
