Often overlooked in today’s here immediately, gone not soon enough economies, the German tradition of Oktoberfest is often overlooked. Hidden amongst the trite traditions of Fall, with its orange hues, its pumpkin spiced beverages and confections, Oktoberfest is a celebration of the harvest.

Celebrated every year since the crown prince of Bavaria (and eventual King Louis) married Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen; Oktoberfest starts in latae late September and runs through October. Often associated with Munich, breweries from throughout the world take this opportunity to brew a unique Oktoberfest bier such as the Marzen or Festbier. One of those breweries, in the hills of Redmond, Washington, is Black Raven Brewing.

Flocktoberfest, as it is so named by the brewers of Venna-themed brewery, is a traditional German-style Marzen. Brewed with Czech grown malted barley, local and European hops, that inspire dreams for the festival.

At 5% ABV (alcohol by volume), please visit Black Raven’s Brewery’s two taprooms to pick up a takeout of half-liter cans, or enjoy a socially distant half-liter at one of  their two patios.
