Ale of 2 Kings Double IPA will officially be tapped on May 2 at Boundary Bay Brewing Co. in Bellingham, Wash., and Burke-Gilman Brewing Company in Seattle, Wash.

The two breweries collaborated at Boundary Bay in Bellingham to craft a distinct and robust Double IPA. The inspiration for Ale of 2 Kings originates from their Double and Imperial IPA recipes that brought home the coveted Alpha King Challenge award.

According to Alpha King Challenge’s website, the challenge was founded in 1999 by Yakima Chief Hops and 3 Floyds Brewing. Every year, the Alpha King Challenge crowns the most well-balanced and drinkable beers with 60 IBUs or more — the top IPAs and DIPAs on the market.

Only two Washington state breweries have been awarded first place in the Alpha King Challenge - Boundary Bay won the award in 2006 for The Imperial IPA and Burke-Gilman won the award in 2020 for Fresh Hoptheosis DIPA.

"My first craft beers were from Boundary Bay in the early 2000s while attending Western Washington University. This project was a ton of fun to do a brew at the brewery that inspired me to become a brewer,” says Phil Pesheck of Burke-Gilman Brewing Co. “It was equally cool to join forces with another Alpha King winner to make an Alpha King inspired Double IPA, and at 8.6%, his one's a real sneaker."

About the Beer: Ale of 2 Kings is a collaboration between the only two Washington-state Alpha King Challenge winners - Boundary Bay Brewing Co. (winner in 2006) and Burke-Gilman Brewing Co. (winner in 2020). The illustrious hop bill of Centennial, Chinook, Simcoe, Lupo Ekuanot and Cyro Citra create dignified aromas of citrus, melon and pineapple. This majestic Double IPA's malt character provides just enough sweetness to support the intense hop flavor. Ale of 2 Kings DIPA's pronounced bitterness rises into a sensationally resinous, warming finish suitable for royalty. 8.6% ABV | 80 IBU | 6 SRM | 17.8°P OG

In addition to draft, Ale of 2 Kings will be available in six-packs of 12oz cans.
