Lupulin Oktoberfest

We're ready, how about you?? Our Oktoberfest Marzen Lager is here for the season in cans for you all to enjoy!

Märzen or Märzenbier is a lager that originated in Bavaria, and is the beer style that was traditionally served at Oktoberfest in Germany. Kilned malts and specialty malts produce a rich, toasty aroma, with a sweet flavor, while the traditional lager fermentation produces a clean yeast profile.

Mashed with a decidedly delicate blend of local pilsner, vienna, munich and honey malts, courtesy of our friends at @epiphanycraftmalt . Delicately hopped with noble varieties add depth and complexity while letting the toast and biscuit aromas and flavor from the malt truly shine. Fermented cool with our preferred lager yeast strain until bone dry and lagered cold until crisp and crushable.

Employing some incredibly technical brewing skills, we chose to keep the malt build rather simple and drive complexity through a decoction mash. An old world practice, the process involves removing a portion of the main mash and bringing it up to a boil. Going through a series of steps, this process is said to provide a depth and color to the finished beer, not possible otherwise. In addition, a technique known as spunding, we closed off Märzen during fermentation in order to capture all of the CO2 being expelled and trapping it into solution. The result yields an unparalleled crisp lager beer with tiny dancing bubbles which form a frothy rocky head. Total production time of seven weeks.

As the scorching hot summer days yield to crisp and cool autumnal nights, for us, this beer and this particular style, is the perfect toasty crusher to pair with the changing of the seasons. Märzen pairs best with a dimple mug, leiderhosen/drindl, whole grain mustard and crisp fall air. Prost!

3 Sons Oktoberfest

The season is slowly approaching, but we're getting a head start in honor of the world's largest Volksfest, The Oktoberfest. It is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Traditionally, Oktoberfest is a 16-18 day folk festival running from September to the first Sunday in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder and the mayor of Munich, Dieter Reiter, announced the official cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 Oktoberfest., deferring the next one to be held in 2022.

BUT, that won't stop us from celebrating! In comes our rendition of the traditional German-style Märzen, 3 Sons Oktoberfest Lager. Clean and crisp with notes of toasted bread and biscuit.

Prost!
