(OR) Deschutes Brewery Announces Expansion of Their Bend Brewpub

image courtesy of Portlandbeer.org's Flickr page Bend, OR – As with all things related to progress it was brought to our attention last week that the brewery that has given us such classics as Black Butte Porter, as well as sought after seasonals like The Abyss, is growing.

Situated in downtown Bend, Oregon; Deschutes Brewery’s Brewery and Public House is expanding and they are not just adding more seats.

Mike Cooper, director of food and beverage for Deschutes said, “This expansion provides the opportunity to better serve our customers and reduce wait times for seating. This also gives us a chance for some new exciting upgrades to create a better overall experience for our guests.”

The current plan calls for a two story expansion featuring; outdoor seating on a brand new balcony, a small private dining area, as well as more seating for the general public. As previously mentioned, the kitchen upgrades will include a bakery and an operating space for curing meats.

The brewery of course has thought this out as they have hired Doug Knight, who to those familiar, designed and oversaw the development of the St. Clair Place, in downtown bend (back in 2000). Over the year’s Doug has been rewarded with success through his keen eye for structural design.

When pressed for a preview of what is to come, Doug foresees the new building to feature a brick facade with a beautiful arcade of “three towering two story segmented arches”, creating the false appearance of historical design using modern materials. Additionally there will be a more modern curtain wall of floor to ceiling glass. Knight said, “It will look like the central utility plants of old, but with a modern twist.”

With construction to begin sometime early this year, you can expect the final brick to be completed in time for it's opening, the first quarter of next year (2012).

For those who live in the area, look for local businesses DKA Architecture & Design and SunWest Builders to be working on the design and construction. We look forward to seeing the finished product when next we are down in Bend next year.

About Deschutes Brewery

Located in beautiful Bend, Oregon, Deschutes Brewery is in the business of daring people to expect more from their beer. That's why we started off in 1988, on the banks of the Deschutes River here in Bend, Oregon, by selling Black Butte Porter at a time when others were sure a dark beer would never catch on. Our brewers love to push the envelope, especially if it makes someone nervous.  But for us, the highest praise is a raised glass and a toast of "Bravely Done!"  For more information about Deschutes Brewery and its courageously crafted beers, please visit www.DeschutesBrewery.com or www.facebook.com/deschutes.brewery.

Cheers
