Like so many Autumns in the Pacific Northwest, October offers a restoration to one's backyard. As the grass navigates from a pale yellow to a lush green, the leaves depart the branches of the trees, reminding all that Fall is here. This is also a time in which breweries, both living in the region and outside of the area, look forward to cooler mornings and evenings, and another year of overcast skies and rain-filled clouds. It also signifies the return of Double Mountain Brewery & Cider’s Fa La La La La Winter Ale.

Once a drool-worthy darling, during a time when the neighborhoods of Portland were less infested with breweries or taverns, Fa La La La La is a reminder what a Winter Ale should be. During a time when India Pale Ale are no longer reserved for Spring and Summer months, Fa La La La La is a welcome escape. And it’s now available in six-packs.

Not every winter beer needs to be dark. In this spirit, we bring you great tidings of joy with this year’s Fa La La La  La.

Brewed with a winter coat of Pilsner and Crystal malts, Fa La La La La gets much of its ‘warmth’ from these two grains, while the additions of Centennial inspire that ‘holiday spirit’. At 7.5% ABV and 85 IBU, here are the sensory notes from the brewers who make this beer possible.

Centennial hops take the reins with evergreen and juicy, ripe citrus, and a resounding chorus of Pilsner and Crystal malts echo the refrain.  This IPA is full of love, goodwill, and is as crisp as a bluebird winter morning. Peace, love, and beers!

Or as Lead Brewer, Matt Coughlin, declares.

Well Ho Ho Ho and a bottle of yum! What can possibly go wrong with Centennials that smell this good? It’s got a well balanced pop, and  sings with fruited evergreen.

Fa La La La La is available in 12-ounce sixpacks, 500ml (reusable) bottles, and on draft at their two locations, one in Hood River and the other in Portland’s Woodstock neighborhood.

About Double Mountain’s mantra “Reduce, Reuse, Repeat”.

With news appearing throughout media outlets on the shortcomings of recycling and OPB reporting that Oregon recycling is on the decline, we determined that there is no better time than the present to share the information on why to choose refillable bottles. Complimenting this delicious experimental series, each beer’s label highlights the benefits of using refillable bottles. The carbon footprint of refillable bottles is vastly lower than other container choices, making it the best container for the environment. Add the benefit of reduced oxidation, and refillable bottles are better for the beer too. Reduce, Reuse, Repeat, a solid mantra, not only for refillable bottles but containers in general.
