Seattle, WA – It seems appropriate that as we continue discussing breweries that were long since dismissed for their beers, that we mention another brewery making a turnaround. Another Seattle based brewery will be making their debut into the Imperial (or Double) India Pale Ale category.

Although we have not had a chance to sample this beer, it appears that Pyramid might be onto something. For the brewery, this will be their second release in the limited edition draft-only Ignition Series. If you were sleeping under a stone this year, you missed their Ignition Series Inaugural beer, Barbed Wire Imperial Hefeweizen.

“Outburst is a high-impact workout for the senses,” said Mike Brown, Commissioner of Inspiration and Aspiration for Pyramid Breweries. “This is a big beer with complex flavors, delivering an outstanding hop punch sip after sip. The hop-heads asked and Pyramid has answered.”

A crafty combination of four different hops – with a whopping 4 lbs per barrel – along with a dose of dry hopping powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong.  Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, four different specialty malts are blended to create a distinctive deep amber hue, and sweet caramel and roasty flavors. -source, Pyramid Breweries

Look for this beer (all 200 kegs of it) to arrive at Pyramid’s Alehouses (in Seattle, Portland, and Berkeley, CA), as well as select bars and restaurants, in May. And once this beer is gone you will have to wait till September for the final Ignition Series beer, Discord Dark IPA, in the Fall of 2010.

As always if you don’t see if on draft at your bar or restaurant, ask them to get a keg.

Cheers
