For those unfamiliar with the style, Cascadian Dark Ale, it's a hybrid of a India Pale Ale, crossed with dark malt, to create a beer unique to the Northwest, and unique in how it confuses the drinker.

As with this style, each brewery has presented their interpretation of the CDA, and Full Sail is no exception with their "full bodied beer with notes of cocoa and slight roast."

It's worth mentioning that this beer also marks the start of Full Sail's Brewmaster Reserve series beers, for the 2011 Calendar Year.

It has a big floral citrus hop flavor and bitterness, reminiscent of an IPA.

"We are excited about our 2011 Brewmaster Reserve Line-up, as a small, independent craft brewer we have the freedom to be creative and explore new beer styles. It was our lead brewer, Barney Brennan, who suggested the style and we think it’s the perfect addition to our rotating selection of Brewmaster Reserve beers. Every eight to ten weeks we come out with a different beer that showcases the brewer’s art.  We began the program back in 1998 as a way of celebrating our independence and creativity,” said Full Sail’s Founder and CEO, Irene Firmat. -source, Full Sail Brewery

Look for Bump in the Night be on the shelves and on draft, soon (if not now), starting mid-December and remaining available through March.

As a follow-up to this beer, the brewery will release their next Brewmaster Reserve beer, in February, Black Gold Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout.

As always, if you don't find it on the shelves or on draft, ask your server or grocer to buy some!
