PORTLAND, OR—No proper harvest celebration would exclude those Bavarian icons we’ve come to know and love in the Pacific Northwest craft brewing community; namely, mӓrzen-style lagers, bratwurst, and liederhosen.  But at Base Camp Brewing Company’s upcoming Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 4th, the day’s festivities are shaping up a little different.
“Two words:  Human.  Fussball.” shares Base Camp’s Joseph Dallas, regarding their plans for Okto14, “Plus we’ve got live music, awesome food, games for the kiddos, a costume contest and firkin beer all day.”
The Weltmeister Human Fussball Tournament, an event that Base Camp plans to host each year, puts teams of six against each other in a scaled-up version of the standard fussball game.  Signups, open now on Event Brite.com, are limited to eight teams in a winner-takes all bracket tournament.  The Base Camp crew’s excitement for this part of their Oktoberfest is surpassed only by the extensive lineup of special firkin-conditioned beers that will be tapped throughout the day.  Specific details have yet to be pinned down for each beer, but should range from additions of dry hops and spices to wood- and cellar-aged blends.
For additional information on this all-ages event, check out Base Camp’s website or Facebook page.
